Crowns and Bridges Home - Treatments - Crowns and Bridges
Crowns are tooth shaped caps which are placed over a tooth to restore its form, function and esthetics. This maybe necessary in the event of tooth fracture in the case of trauma, discoloured teeth due to acquired or congenital anomalies or root canal treatment. The existing natural tooth is prepared to receive and make space for the crown. A bridge is used to replace one of more missing teeth. Both crowns and bridges are cemented to natural teeth or implants. Crowns are single units which are cemented directly onto the missing teeth whereas bridges take the help of teeth adjacent to the missing area. These are then cemented to the prepared adjacent teeth. Crowns can be of a number of material ranging from all metal, metal-ceramic, all ceramic or zirconia.
